Golf in the area

Since the mid 1960's the Algrave has become an extremely popular all year round golfing holiday destination. The information below describes some of the golf available in the immediate vincinity of Porto de Mos. We have not been specific on green fees, as these can change, but instead desribed them as good value, moderate or expensive.

Boa Vista - no more than 5 minutes drive away. Situated on the cliffs between Lagos and Praia de Luz with some magnificent views of the ocean, this 5751 metre 18 hole course also includes a driving range, pro shop, golf academy, restaurants and bars. Palmares - situated overlooking Lagos Bay and is approximately 10 minute drive away. This 18 hole, 5961 metre course has several holes set in the dunes behind the Meira Praia beach. Green fees are moderate. Tel: 282 790 500

Parque de Floresta - situated on the road west to Sagres and is an inland course of 5673 metres which still offers ocean views. Tel: 282 690 054

Penina Championship - Penina golf courseoffers a selection of three courses, based on your skill level. It is the grandfather of courses in the Algarve and a permanent living memory to its architect and active promoter, Sir Henry Cotton. Originally paddy fields for rice growing rice has been converted into a flat challenging course and especially for the stronger player. Something short of half a million shrubs and trees were planted in the conversion. As the fairways are flat Henry Cotton introduced strategically placed water hazards to catch the unwary long hitter.
